The picture above is of my great great grandparents, John and Mary Stacey, and probably their 4 youngest children.
Their youngest son George was born in 1882 so that would date this photograph mid to late 1880s.
I will start my thoughts with John and Mary who are the maternal branch of my family.

Great aunt Lily

Lily Butler was born in 1891 in Wakefield, Yorkshire.  She was the second child of Charles William Butler and Everil Stacey, the elder sister of my grandmother Edith Tirrell (nee Butler).  When her parents died Lily went to live with her paternal grandparents, John and Mary Stacey, in Ravenfield.   She was living with them in 1901 and in 1911 she was still living with them along with  her husband Frank Garner who she married  in March of that year.   Frank and Lily had two children, Everil born in 1911 and named after her deceased grandmother, and Arthur who was born in 1912.  I know nothing more about the family but do have this photograph which was given to me by my mother.

  1. Have you tried finding any children that Everil and Arthur may have had?

    1. I do have a marriage and 1 child for Everil and a marriage and 5 children I think for Arthur but not confirmed

  2. Ah. My Mum (adopted) was born in 1911.

It's so wonderful that you have all of these connections.
I am really enjoying your journey!

  3. I think those velvet dresses must have been popular for little girls. I have a photo of my grandmother's niece, Alice SKELTON, with a very large bow in her hair and wearing a heavy velvet dress. She was born in 1916 and died of diphtheria in 1922. Will have to get round to posting it on my website for you to see.
